Even worse, what if some of the groups that received money had been involved in a failed coup attempt against a democratically elected U.S. president? Would the U.S. public not have a right to be outraged at the attempt to manipulate our political process? How come reporters are not asking the tough questions of our leaders? There have been plenty of opportunities to do so: in the months leading to the launch of Operation Iraqi Freedom, officials from the Bush administration presented the Bush line on Iraq: Saddam Hussein had stockpiles of deadly weapons, and he was ready to use them either against us directly, or indirectly by providing those weapons to terrorists.
