Iraq: A Deepening Tragedy Friends have heard me say I could not believe the Bush Administration would launch the Iraq war -- until the moment when "shock and awe" illuminated the night sky of Baghdad. My reasoning had nothing to do with the fact the US actions would violate international law (would be, in fact, criminal) but rather my conviction the war would be an act of stupidity almost without parallel.
