The cost of the Iraqi mission to the US taxpayer is $US1 billion ($A1.33 billion) a month. There are fears that Iraq could collapse into civil war. No weapons of mass destruction have been found there despite an exhaustive search. Terrorist bombings continue to exact a savage toll worldwide.
