Rebels kill Iraqi policemen. Mosques are blown apart. American soldiers are killed almost daily. Isn't the war over? Aren't the Iraqis free? Why won't they settle down? Because U.S. plans for post-invasion Iraq were based on a singularly wrongheaded idea. Tony Blair's New Friend There is just one test of this sincerity, and that is the consistency with which his concern for human rights guides his foreign policy. If he cares so much about the welfare of foreigners that he is prepared to go to war on their behalf, we should expect to see this concern reflected in all his relations with the governments of other countries. Baghdad is starting to resemble Jerusalem with reoccurring bombing on a scale that scatters any myth that Iraq is improving. As the colonial occupation continues, reminders of why the U.S. is garrisoned in the Middle East are becoming all too frequent. Does any public official ever learn or will it take the franchising of the Rashid Hotel on domestic soil to drive the point home?
