Are we better off, now that Iraq is destroyed and we must pay for reconstruction and stage an indefinite occupation?

The decision to conquer Iraq (the term "war" is misleading and inaccurate) was made, disturbingly enough, during George W. Bush's campaign in 2000. Yes, that's right, much earlier than 9/11, and definitely before Saddam's supposed uncooperative stance.
