Sharon, the failed kingmaker Posted: Tuesday, June 25, 2002 (Guardian UK) Voices in Israel, including within Ariel Sharon's cabinet, are calling on their prime minister to crown his reconquista of the West Bank by naming a new Palestinian leader. If he does so, it will be his second exercise in Arab kingmaking. The first was 20 years ago in Lebanon.
