Zionism or Capitalism: Israel Feeds It's Arms Industry with Conflict

It's not always about extremism. sometimes conflict also has financial reasons.

As Defense Minister Ariel Sharon was a parlor player with maintaining Israeli defense contracts. Israel was forced into an economic crisis with the Oslo accords, it's economic backbone, the defense industry suddenly had no internal demand and had to compete with fierce western competition in a post-cold war world. As an Israeli economist pointed out:

In light of the above, the long-term viability of the Israeli defense industry remains questionable. Unless the government would devise and implement a plan for the restructuring and preservation of the state-owned industries, which seems improbable under the prevailing circumstances [Oslo Accords], their demise--especially in the case of the technology-starved IMI--is likely.

What better way to keep the Arms industry going then generate a new crisis increasing demand for more armaments and foster in a new era of defense industrialization. Who better to do it than the old general that has always been called in when some dirty work needed doing, Ariel Sharon. Do we really need to believe that Sharon did not realize what he was doing when he visited the temple mount unleashing pent up resentments for the Sabra and Shatila massacres he is partly responsible for? Or was it a calculated step to ensure a new series of conflicts. Israeli defense hawks have never wanted peace. The first Palestinians to call for peace with Israel back in the early Seventies were forcibly exiled by Israel, just ask one exile Saleh Abu Saleh.

Yet, we cannot expect the Bush family to step in and call the bluff of the Israeli defense industry now that the Carlyle Group, Sr. Bush's holding company, is invested in joint ventures with the Israeli Defense Industry through United Technologies. One May ask what is the upcoming Israeli American Political Affairs Committee meeting. Is it an opportunity for concerned Americans to discuss the future of Israel or a chance for defense industry leaders to further promote Israeli defense expenditures through U.S. Foriegn Aid, and the ability of Israel to sell it's own weapons to America. AIPAC seems more to stand for American-Israeli Profitable Arms Contracts than anything else upon analysis of it's own public relations at http://www.aipac.org/cooperation.cfm (see uploaded picture). All this in the name of globalization as profits and power take the front seat as innocent civilians die so that the profiteers can make a financial killing.

So don't sit back and let this situation continue. If you are an American come to Washington, DC April 22nd and shut down Sharon and the AIPAC lobby at their annual conference. More information is at http://www.sustaincampaign.org
