Suicide Bombings, Attacks Kill 55 in Iraq

Syria slams US, Israel
A SYRIAN government daily accused Washington and Israel today of leading a "campaign of intimidation" against Damascus and its backers in Beirut since the murder of former Lebanese premier Rafik Hariri.
WMD: Weapons of Mass Deception, which cost just US$200,000 to produce, points to a wide array of failures in the accuracy of the reporting, as well as an unwillingness to question the Bush administration's claims and actions.

This war is about money.

Diplomats doubt that Syria would kill its former ally
'It does not make sense,' said one European official, 'it is not really Syria's modus operandi. It is such a gift for the anti-Syrian lobby in Lebanon and internationally. Why would they do it? Not only that, but the Syrians would not want to upset the Saudis, who they are cautious in their relations with and who regard Hariri [who has a Saudi passport] as being very much their own.'

Was Syria really to blame?
The 300-kilo car bomb that killed former Lebanese prime minister Rafik Hariri in Beirut last week is being widely blamed on Syria. The Bush administration in the U.S., cheered on by Israel, accused Syria of "terrorism," withdrew its ambassador and all but threatened Damascus with war. A Syrian role in the crime defies logic, though not possibility. Syrian President Bashar-el-Assad's regime is desperately seeking to avoid providing U.S. President George W. Bush with a pretext for war and has urgently sought improved relations with Washington.
