The current bans on Arabic television channels Al-Jazeera and Al-Arabia in Iraq and Al-Manar in US and France stem from Washington's attempts to muzzle press freedom in order to suppress media reports about growing public resistance against US occupying forces.

Back in November of 2004 the United States government and military decided to empty out Fallujah a city of 300,000 souls in the dead of winter in order to liberate the citizens there. Month after month, year after year, we've watched with fascinated horror as George W. Bush revives the ancient tools of tyranny. Aggressive war, torture, secret prisons, arbitrary detention, death squads, mass surveillance, contempt for law, elitist corruption, deification of the leader, co-option of religion to serve state power, rule by executive fiat: It's like watching a ghastly pantomime of imperial Rome or some feudal state, rigged up in modern dress.
