What misleaders will do to take people to war
Posted: Tuesday, July 15, 2003

President Bush rewrites portions of the address in the Oval Office Jan. 23, 2003.
So we can now dispense of the scenario the White House and right-wing pundits have attempted to sell these last few days - that Bush saw his speech for the first time when it was handed to him as he walked to the podium January 27.

Truth camouflaged by word games
He would be like Sheriff Bart in "Blazing Saddles," holding the gun to his own head and saying, "Nobody move or POTUS gets it." The Bush administration has known all along that the evidence of the imminent threat of Saddam's weapons and the al-Qaida connections were pumped up. They were manning the air hose.

Like the Gulf of Tonkin lie in 1964 and the baby incubator fabrication in 1990, the weapons of mass destruction fiasco is a reminder of the lengths Western governments will go to in order to incite their populations to war.

Urgent and wrong
Why would President Bush and his aides have included in the State of the Union address all that business about Iraq trying to buy uranium when there were already such clear doubts about its authenticity? Why was it so important?
