Bush's deceptions on Iraq
Posted: Friday, June 6, 2003

Trapped by Their Own Lies
Cracks in the Consensus?

Revise and conquer
But even as revisionist-in-chief George W. Bush was staging his somber photo-op in Auschwitz last week, the web of lies he and his little buddy Tony Blair concocted to "justify" launching an act of military aggression -- on the very Hitlerian grounds of "preventive war" -- was being shredded by their own intelligence services.

Lying About The Reason For War
Now it is clear that many of Bush's statements appear to be false. In the past, Bush's White House has been very good at sweeping ugly issues like this under the carpet, and out of sight. But it is not clear that they will be able to make the question of what happened to Saddam Hussein's weapons of mass destruction (WMDs) go away - unless, perhaps, they start another war.

The riddle of the sands
With their claims about Saddam's weapons under increasing scrutiny, US officials are trying to pass the buck for flaws in the intelligence that led to war in Iraq. Marian Wilkinson reports.

Evidence of Iraq weapons was "big bluff"
A German member of the UN team investigating Iraq's alleged programme of weapons of mass destruction has accused US authorities of presenting false evidence against the regime, the German weekly news magazine Der Spiegel reports.
