Late September in Washington the Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Abdullah Badawi, Foreign Minister Hamid Al -Bar and their entire entourage was held up for 6 & 1/2hours at a customs and immigration depot.

They were thoroughly searched by official, they were made to take off their shoes shoe laces belts ties and shirt.

Luggage was with held even longer as personal medicines and cosmetics were examined at a new lab for toxic and dangerous chemical compounds.

A protest was made by the foreign ministry and the Malaysian High Commission which in turn was answered with the protocols of scant regard for the Geneva accords where junior staff at the embassy here in Kuala Lumpur.

Early this year the US government demanded from South East Asian countries that its custom and immigration officials be place at all major ports in the host country. It is not clear if Malaysia had agreed to the US demands but Malaysian officials said they had to discuss the request at cabinet level.

Malaysia have been overly helpful in meeting US demands since 9/11. What a way to show American gratitude even as Muslims perish in Malaysian prisons without trial at the behest of the US government.

It was a very humiliating experience for the Malaysian people.
